My third week started well, with good runs on Monday and Wednesday. Friday came and went. Pub. Saturday came and went. Family. Sunday came and went. Pub. But then finally I went for a run Monday. Pain. So much pain. Left it too long. My right knee was not happy.
I ran though the pain - apparently I have to do this, it's the law of getting fit. Not sure who wrote it. Perhaps it needs a review. Where does one go to request a review of made up laws?
So to try and keep my body from repeating the pain I took No 1 child and the young dog out for a quick 20 minutes on the bike tonight. I was amazed how easy it was compared to the last time I took the bike out on the same route. Maybe this personal challenge is working. Maybe.

And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights...
Well, I say forty days and forty nights. I think Noah had it a little harder. It was about forty minutes. However, I was out for those forty minutes. And the dogs. They were not so happy.
Week two on my C25K challenge - repeating week one. I started the week with good intentions. Life got in my way. I say life got in the way. Perhaps what I meant to say was I let life get in the way. I could have got up a little earlier. I could have left the office a little earlier. But I did not. It came to Thursday and I ran out of excuses and tried again. Managed to get out, this time with No 2 child on bike to keep me company. This is when the rain joined in.
Saturday morning and hangover. Another excuse coming I hear you say. No, he says smugly, not another excuse but another day in week two. Tomorrow I start with day one of week two in week three. Simples.
All last week I was using my old faithful Nike All Trac boots. I bought these in NYC about ten years ago. They are old and not designed for fat men to run in. So I thought I would dig out old faithful's big brother, these are "proper" trainers and were possibly purchased in the 90s. They are old and not designed for fat men to run in. They will do - at least until I can confirm I have committed to this challenge at which point I will go and buy a new pair. Maybe. Perhaps.

In the begining
It's week one. I have managed to complete three 30 minute runs. Well, I say run. I have run for 8 minutes. I have walked for 22 minutes. It was easy. Well, I say easy. Day one was hard on the hips but at least the dogs were happy to be out.
Day two was easy on the hips but hard on the ankles. I read somewhere that if you tighten your laces properly, from the bottom to the top, the hips do not get affected so much. Who knew? It worked. I say it worked. It actually transferred pain to my ankle. But my hip is pain free. Dogs still happy though.
Day three and I have the hips of a teenager. I have the ankle of a chair. Very painful today. Dogs can't believe their luck. I sent a text a good friend who had a "running scholarship to a prestigious American university" and runs daily. He's the same age. I say friend. He said "run through those first few weeks of aches".
So, week one complete. Pat on back. Only 8 weeks to go. Oh, did I mention that I loath running... I wonder if I will repeat that sentence in nine weeks.
